SHOT Show 2016 – Daniel Defense DD5V1 and DDM4ISR
Daniel Defense was on hand at the 2016 SHOT Show® providing an opportunity for us to get our paws on some of their latest products. Among these were the upcoming second generation of their integrally suppressed DDM4ISR, based on 300 Blackout cartridge, and the 7.62x51MM DD5V1 which was released a few months ago.
Daniel Defense DDR5V1
The DDR5V1 was announced in October and began hitting dealer shelves late in the year. Designed from the ground up to get the most out of the .308 cartridge, it features a veritable laundry list of features including Daniel Defense’s 4-bolt connection system, ambidextrous controls, configurable modular charging handle, cold-hammer-forged barrel, and Geissele SSA 2-stage trigger.
Daniel Defense also featured the DD5V1 during Industry Day at the Range™, allowing invited media and buyers to take a few shots downrange.
The DD5V1 felt solid, like a precision tool, and was comfortable to shoot. Sadly, I was too caught up in the moment and failed to record any video of the DD5V1 in action.
Daniel Defense DDM4ISR
The second generation of Daniel Defense’s integrally suppressed 300 Blackout rifle is expected to begin manufacturing in April. Compared to its predecessor, the DDM4ISR sports a slightly shorter 9″ fluted barrel and a redesigned baffle stack along with a long MFR XL 15.0 handguard. I’m a sucker for the “Mil Spec +” finish.
Noise levels from the DDM4ISR are expected to run about 130db with 220gr sub-sonic ammo. We were able to try it out with some of Daniel Defense’s own upcoming 300 Blackout ammo and it certainly seemed quiet enough. It was difficult to gauge the noise level, due to all the non-suppressed weapons being used, but I got the impression that it wasn’t much louder than the trigger reset.
The following video shows the DDM4ISR in use and includes another overview of the DD5V1.
